Jones Act Claims, Offshore Injuries, Maritime Injuries or Injuries on a Vessel
The water can be one of the most dangerous places in Louisiana to work. Every year divers, drillers, roustabouts, floorhands, captains, deckhands, oilers, navigators, helicopter operators, boat passengers, and service hands of all descriptions are injured and killed in the Gulf of Mexico or on inland lakes and rivers.
Injuries and deaths often occur on fixed platforms and involve Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act ("OCSLA") claims. Or, offshore injuries and death occur on vessels and involve Jones Act claims and general maritime claims.
This can be a very complex area of the law, and your rights can be effected by state worker's compensation laws, general maritime law, the Jones Act, and the Long Shore and Harbor Worker's Compensation Act. Each of these laws is complex and special.
